Schizophrenia is a chronic mental illness that does not have a cure. This mental illness causes the victim to experience auditory, olfactory, tactile and/or visual hallucinations that may cause them to think or act bizarrely. The victims of schizophrenia may begin to hear voices that influence the way they think, and it may also alter the way they view the outside world and the people around them.

As a result of the lack of awareness raised for schizophrenia, there is a stigma surrounding this chronic mental illness, causing many people to believe that the victim is merely “crazy” and that they “cannot be helped.” Although schizophrenia may not have a cure, it can be treated with prescribed medication, which would lessen and/or prevent the symptoms of the chronic mental illness, and improve their quality of life.
