President’s Choice Shot Glasses Redesign, 2021

The President’s Choice “Set of 6 Shot Glasses” packaging was redesigned collaboratively by Angela Lam and Ming Zhao.

Shot glasses are often housed in the same rectangular packaging, while using full-colour photographs to attract the attention of the consumers. However, using the same shape and overall design will make it difficult for the consumer to choose between the competing brands of shot glasses as the different brands struggle to stand out from one another.
Furthermore, the rectangular prism does not match the lively environment that the shot glasses are typically used in, such as parties or other events. Therefore, another strong structural form was chosen to reflect the nature of the shot glasses.
In this case, we created an experimental packaging design form, a pentagonal prism and a pentagonal antiprism were combined together to create a unique shape that mimics the tall trapezoid-like shape of the President’s Choice shot glasses.
