Tactico is a conceptual accessible brand of kitchen scissors designed for individuals above the ages of 12 who have partial blindness and/or low-fine motor skills such as arthritis.
Oftentimes, scissors are encased within plastic blister packaging, which is notoriously difficult to open and typically requires consumers to use another sharp object to access the product.
As a solution, Tactico’s packaging uses a single cardboard substrate to prioritize safety and improve accessibility, while also introducing an additional function to the packaging through form molding and die-cuts. The blades of the three different scissor SKUs are molded into the packaging form, while the handles are exposed through die-cuts, allowing consumers to feel and assess the product’s comfort before purchase.

Tactile Components
In this instance, the cardboard substrate would be molded to the shape and contour of the different scissor blades, allowing the consumers to touch, distinguish, and understand the different variety of scissors without any harm.
Packaging Exterior & Interior
In addition, the scissor handles are exposed through a die-cut reveal so the consumers would be able to experience and judge the comfortability of the scissors before purchasing them.
Initial Concept Sketches
Although we were initially considering placing the scissors in an upside-down position within the packaging, we ultimately decided to place the scissors in an upright position since we are using a cardboard substrate instead of a plastic substrate.
Packaging Form Development
Cardboard substrates cannot be reinforced like plastic, which may cause security issues. For example, the scissors could easily slip out of the cardboard packaging that acts like a sheathe for the scissors. However, we were still able to implement the idea where the customer can feel the handle of the scissors through a die-cut reveal. The scissors would be held securely in an upright position, because there would be a molded form in between the scissor grips, which prevents the scissors from sliding out of the packaging.
