Volume 1

Toxicity of Social Media:
Volume 1

Adobe Illustrator | Photoshop | InDesign

Year: 2019
Dimension: 6 x 8 Inches

Course: Graphic Design 2
Project Timeframe: 4 Weeks

Toxicity of Social Media is a two-volume graphic and typographic narrative that explores the dark side of the digital realm, characterized by information overload, a malicious environment, and the invasion of privacy.

As a result, both booklets are intentionally designed to be highly chaotic, making them difficult for the viewer to navigate and engage for an extended period of time.

The entire booklet is designed as a psychographic experience to evoke an uncomfortable feeling in the viewer rather than solely relying on the individual compositions themselves. For example, eye fatigue caused by prolonged exposure to glaring digital screens is emulated through the use of high gloss paper.

Toxicity of Social Media Vol. 1
The booklet was intentionally printed on high gloss paper to replicate the eye strain caused by prolongued exposure to glaring digital screens, further enhancing the project concept of instilling an uncomfortable feeling within the viewer. Eye fatigue prevents the viewers from looking at the booklet for an extended period of time.

Toxicity of Social Media:
Volume 2

Adobe Illustrator | Photoshop | InDesign | Projection | Photography

Year: 2019
Dimension: 6 x 8 Inches
Course: Graphic Design 2

Project Timeframe: 4 Weeks
Volume 2 of Toxicity of Social Media delivers alternative psychographic experience to the viewer by distilling a sense of emptiness and loneliness despite being equally as chaotic as volume 1.

However, the compositions from volume 2 are different because they have a sense of depth that the flat compositions from volume 1 lacks. Volume 2 compositions are projected onto several pieces of black cardboard substrate that resemble broken glass screens of digital devices, and later reintegrated back into the booklet through photography.

Thus, the new implementation of depth within the highly chaotic pieces makes the viewer feel as if they are looking to the void.

Volume 2: Process Work

Digital compositions were created in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop and later projected onto a black cardboard substrate. The projected compositions were later photographed and later reintegrated back into Adobe Photoshop for further adjustment.
