Kakemono 4D:
Japanese Tea Ceremony, 2020

Adobe Illustrator / Adobe After Effects
The 4D project of Kakemono captures the elegance and tranquil atmosphere established by the kakemono through an abstract demonstration of the Japanese Tea Ceremony.

While the kakemono was originally used by Zen Buddhist monks to preserve their sacred works, the kakemono eventually evolved with the purpose to set the atmosphere for special events, such as the Japanese Tea Ceremony. Each and every kakemono is carefully chosen and displayed in an act of respect towards the guest.

Historically, the Japanese Tea Ceremony had not always been so dignified. However, as it became more influenced by the principles of Wabi-Sabi, the ceremony transformed and became recognized as an elegant artform that requires patience and a skillful hand.

During the Tea Ceremony, the host treats the guest with immense respect in hopes that the guest will leave feeling honored. The guest must have a good first impression of the ceremony, because it is treated as though the host and the guest will never meet again. Thus, the host will never have a second chance to redeem themselves if they fail to impress the guest the first time.
